Your Vote is Needed Now

The John Kanzius Cancer Research Foundation needs your votes to land a PepsiCo grant to further research on the use of Radio Waves to kill cancer (as seen on 60 Minutes, etc.) Please vote at www.RefreshEverything.com    To get the money the foundation must be one of the top two vote-getters.  You could be saving my life and yours!

Oscar Romero, Archbishop of San Salvador

The other day I promised we would pick up on what happened to one of the great heroes of The Americas, Oscar Romero. Please read and absorb what goes on while we watch games and complain about (you fill in the blank)… Again, we have Cheryl to thank for putting this down on paper for us to read now….

On February 23, 1977, Oscar Romero was appointed Archbishop of San Salvador. His appointment was met with surprise, dismay, and even incredulity. While this appointment was welcomed by the government, many priests were disappointed, especially those openly aligning with Marxism. The Marxist priests feared that his conservative reputation would negatively affect liberation theology's commitment to the poor.

Newspaper Map of the World

Rita spotted this and sent it in to share with you.  "WHOEVER CAME UP WITH THIS IS REALLY GOOD…"  rita

Just put your mouse on a city anywhere in the world and the newspaper headlines pop up...   Double click the dot and the page gets larger - you can read the entire paper on some if you click on the right place.

Is the Women’s Movement Dead?

Well, if not dead, it is certainly in retirement and a sad time for all American women when one more warrior rides off into the sunset -- thus another voice is silenced. Ellen Goodman of the Boston Globe is hanging up her pen January 1. As a tribute to her and perhaps a way to speak to those women I met this past year who claimed not to know anything about ERA, and so on, and are sure that women are doing just fine in business now… I give you excerpts from Ellen Goodman column of last week.

George F. Will on Christmas Spending

Let me say this, George Will is revered by fiscally conservative people as a well-balanced, thoughtful writer. A member of the Washington Post Writers Group, his work is syndicated nationally and appears on Op-Ed pages of most major newspapers. You do remember what newspapers are, doncha’? Your grandchildren probably won’t. Anyway, here are a few ideas and things to think about, not the entire essay, but enough to get you started…

Americans Waste Billions on Gifts People Don’t Want
Another huge value-destroying hurricane is about to slam America, destroying billions of dollars of value. Another Katrina? No, another Christmas.

Woman leaves $40,000 at shrine

The following story caught Kathy’s interest and for several reasons, it caught mine, which I will mention at the end.

HAGERSTOWN, Md. – A woman quietly left $40,000 worth of rare U.S. coins near a Catholic shrine for safekeeping so the Virgin Mary could watch over her life savings while she was out of town, and apparently it worked: The money was returned to her when she got back a week later.

An Alternative to Layoffs

Years ago I wrote a ponderous thesis on “Cost Containment of Benefits for a Declining Industry” and stood by as my employer used my findings to accomplish that end. Today we all face the same problems, but in a different way. Today, believe it or refuse to see it, our country is in decline and we have to stop the rapid descent by doing a lot now. Fighting among ourselves and demonizing other countries or political parties is not going to do much to solidify our finances or national interests, but it seldom makes much of a difference what individual workers do when those who head organizations are stuck in behaviors that produced the decline.

Dalai Lama Visits Town Near Tibet

Kathy caught this article. She has agreed to investigate the possibility of traveling with me to Tibet soon.

Dalai Lama visits town near Tibet, angering China
TAWANG, India – Joyous Buddhist pilgrims welcomed the Dalai Lama back Sunday to the Himalayan town he first set foot in five decades ago while fleeing Chinese rule in his native Tibet — a rare trip close to his homeland that has angered Beijing. The Dalai Lama's arrival here highlighted a lingering border dispute between India and China, exposed Beijing's ongoing sensitivities over Tibet and raised questions over who would succeed him as the region's spiritual leader.

Are you keeping up?

Ever have the feeling that life as we know it today is slipping away? I have had deep, dark forebodings for many years now and actually felt relief last year when the shoes starting coming off and falling to the floor. Why?

My work takes me into the outer fringes of many, many lives who seek my help in contacting their own Spiritual Guides, as we describe the workings of The Holy Spirit within each human being. For years I have seen a trend by such Guides to urge many of my clients to set up a business that would run parallel to their everyday careers, to save more money, pay off credit cards, etc. I could see many being warned that a major economic correction was coming, but how and when??

Sudanese Warrior to Seattle Cool Dude

Wow! I just love this story that AJ spotted in the Seattle Times. Know you will love it, too! Check it out…

Hello Ruth,
I hope you are well!  I just recently started to get the Sunday paper again, for a lot of reasons. (Best reason is to keep newspapers going! Who will do the really tough investigative stuff if the papers disappear? Ruth)  Sometimes, an article can touch us in so many ways - some make me expand with love for human beings, and in the Sunday Pacific Northwest Magazine was this article about Daniel Machar....I thought you would "love" it, too!  Much love, hugs and blessings to you! AJV

From Sudanese warrior to
Seattle cool dude, Daniel Machar is making his way. A former child warrior and refugee from Sudan, now loves his life of service to others and time to make friends and play in the United States. For entire article, click here: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/pacificnw/2010018888_pacificportrait18.html
