Washington's Singing Cabbie

Attitude determines altitude. This guy is choosing to fly high above his circumstances.
Reminds me of the great traffic cop in Pittsburgh who for many years entertained as he kept the traffic moving right along.  Too bad the other cops got jealous and he had to retire early because of it, but he went on to entertain others over the years via guest appearances on streets all across America.

August 21, 2008 Thought for The Day

Remember when you were a child?  What was it that made you forget your childhood or still go over it all the time now?  Why not stow it in the attic and pull it out around Christmas?  That sounds like a great time to relax and laugh and go back.

Another Angel of The Maya Miracle

MAYAN ELDER INAUGURATED INTO PUBLIC OFFICE
Guatemala City, Guatemala August 9, 2008
Speech by President Alvaro Colom Caballeros
Honorable representatives of the Council of Elders of Guatemala, Vice president of the Republic, Ministers, Diplomatic  Body, friends of the Republic that accompany us today. In this day, most likely, not all of us who are here present in this plaza can comprehend the significance of this event. Today I come dressed in Kashlan because I come from a Kashlan family, I didn't have the honor to be born into an Indigenous village.

In June of 1994 I was honored and blessed by the Heart of the Heavens to meet Don Alejandro Cirilo Perez Oxlaj. He has had the patience to teach me those principles, the 20 days of the Mayan calendar, that ancestral wisdom. I continue to be his student. Because I was not born into an Indigenous village, I didn't receive the Mayan education from my birth, instead I entered into it in my later years.  I have had the honor to meet many of the Indigenous Elders that are here today. We have shared many things together in these past 14 years.  (The president addresses some Elders here and mentions specific memorable incidents he had with them in places like Iximche, Peten, etc.)  It is this connection with them, this walking at their side, learning from them, this is what has transformed my life. It transformed it so much that it has made me the President now.

August 20, 2008 Thought for The Day

Who do you consider to be very popular?  Why?  Ever wonder about how people get elected to office and then everyone hates them--right away?  Think about the people you admired when a child and you will figure it out.

Where do you stand on Iraq now?

Hey Ruth,
I just got an e-mail from a woman I used to work with….  She told me she doesn’t know how to feel because her son is being sent back to Iraq next month.  She said the closer they get to the date her son has to leave, the worse she gets.  I sent her an e-mail that I didn’t know what to say to her except that I would pray for her son and her family.  However, I am angry.

I have always been in favor of the movie “The Dirty Dozen” in letting criminals give back to society by serving on the frontline in war time.  We have jails full of able bodied men that could be trained to fight as a way to pay back to the community what they took away.  There are young men doing nothing and killing each other off in stupid gang warfare and they could just as well as do it elsewhere.  There’s got to be a better way.

Well, folks, how do you ring in on this? Any feelings one way or another? What would you do if you were in charge? Let us know where you stand, if you can.  Have you changed your mind or still feel about the same as always?

August 19, 2008 Thought for The Day

Are you the first one in your crowd to read a new book?  Are you the first in your crowd to do anything new?  What is it?  You know a lot about yourself now.

Humor for Lexophiles and other punsters

1. I wondered why the baseball was getting bigger. … … … … Then it hit me.

2. Police were called to a day care where a three-year-old was resisting a rest.

3. Did you hear about the guy whose whole left side was cut off?
He's all right now.

4. To write with a broken pencil is pointless.

August 18, 2008 Thought for The Day

Quietly and easily are words that most people overlook.  Do you?  if so, you probably do not expect much from such folks who live that way today, either.

In a matter of seconds you can change.  Doubt that?  What happened now when you read this thought for the day?
