Here's a great review of the visit to Pittsburgh by Mayan elders that we posted here...it took place last night and Millicent has taken the time and energy to let us all share in the event now. Thank you so much, Millicent!
Hey Ruth, just wanted to tell you about last night's evening with the Maya at the First United Methodist Church.
There were over 300 people there and it was a beautiful evening. Sven from Point of Light (New Age newspaper) opened the evening and said that one thing he has learned from spending a day with the Elders was respect for everything.
We were first given a preview of the film Carole Hart is working on. The 13 grandmothers from the 4 directions traveled to India last year and met with the Dali Lama. One of the grandmothers looked like my Aunt Sue and I said to myself while watching the film, 'there's Aunt Sue.' One of the points of the film is that the 13 grandmothers are teaching the importance of prayer in everything we do. The 13 grandmothers have come together to light the way for us.
Mayan High Priest Don Alejandro was the first to speak. His wife interpreted for him because he wanted to speak in his dialect since he is Mayan and he said that is why he wears the clothes of the Maya, etc. The reason of Pittsburgh's 3 rivers (which he blessed yesterday in a ceremony at the Point), he said was that the place is hidden in the shadows and there is a hidden understanding that we will come across, the mysteries of creation, but it will come to us in the sacredness of our dreams after the year 0. He said we must be respectful of the laws of nature and there is a reason why the fourth river is hidden in Pittsburgh. He said he was sorry that we are fearful of the year 2012. He told us the world is not going to end, it is just that our consciousness will change at that time. It is a time for us to wake up and look at the 3 stars in the sky that are there to guide us. He said we are all equal, we are all flowers of the earth. He said the year 2012 is the beginning of a new cycle and will start the year 0. It will be a time of the end of racism. We will all know that we are all one. He said it is the end of one cycle of the sun, 5,200 years, using the long count. He said at this time there will be darkness on the earth and it may last several hours or several days. He said we are to rejoice at this time, because it is the time of change, when the central magnetic axis of the earth creates this darkness at the year 0. He said this is what scientists call the "black hole." He said we are in the finalization of the 5th period of the sun. At this time we are to glorify the name of our creator using our own culture, music, etc. This is the time of campassion. He wants us to be the messengers of his word and love Mother Earth. We are to keep the water that is flowing underground (our 4th river) because our water is contaminated, just like our bodies are. He said the water flowing underground is for our future, for our survival. He said we are all to blame for our own contamination, especially because of the processed foods we eat. He wants us to light up our torches and not to destroy the beauty of Mother Earth. When the darkness comes, we are to say thank you to our Father for the change that is about to come. One of the sweet things he said at the end of his talk was that he apologized if anything he said offended anyone. I don't ever remember hearing a speaker apologize for saying the truth.
Next was one of the 13 Grandmothers of the International Council of 13 Indigenous Grandmothers, Flordemayo, who spoke about the waters here. She said without water, we cannot live. She said that each of the 13 grandmothers were called to come together to plant prayer and enlighten and support the people for the future of the children. She said we have to take care of the children of the world and the spirit of the feminine. The children are the seed carriers of the future. She told us that the children need to learn to walk in the way of respect and prayer. She said when they went down to the Point at 3 Rivers, we had already done what they were going to pray for. The fountain was already there, representing taking the sacred water from the 4th river underneath and shooting it up to the heavens above. She asked us what are we going to do in our city, our homes, etc., as creators. She said we need to move into the light with the awareness of the changes that are coming.
After Flordemayo spoke, they moved the speakers and other Elders into another room; it was getting late, and someone started a song they wrote. Most people were leaving by this time, but they did say if we stayed there would be questions and answers. I told Heddie I wanted to go to where the books were, so we left during the singing.
I wanted to get a Point of Light and saw Sven in the room where the Elders were. Sven came out to talk to me and I showed him your book, and gave him a copy of my book's cover page. The Elders were being asked to go back into the sanctuary for questions and answers, so as they walked past me, we shook hands. I stopped Carole, the film producer, who had a copy of your book in her arms, cover page out so everyone could see what she was holding, and told her that I enjoyed the little of her film they showed. I wished her good luck with it and told her that when the film comes out, I would be sure to promote it as best I could.

P.S. ...I finally ran into Sharon and Kathy on the sidewalk outside as Heddie and I were leaving. I told them I spoke to Carole and that she had your book in her hand.
I am so excited to learn more about the Grandmothers and their project.
